Volcanic Ash Skin And Soap Benefits : Volcanic Ash Skin Care Products

Let’s be clear – Volcanic Ash is not Bentonite Clay, volcanic sand or volcanic pumice. True volcanic ash offers explosive benefits for your skin and a very effective ingredient in soaps and other volcanic ash skin care products. However, there are far too many products sold as being or containing Volcanic Ash when they actually don’t.

While Volcanic ash is quite similar to fine sand (silicon) and the mineral particles are tiny (easily under 2 mm across), it’s not black sand (which occurs when volcanic ash enters the ocean and the sediment mixes with sand discoloring it or its just sand with a high density of Magnetite or other heavy mineral.

Real Volcanic Ash is ejected from the mouth of the volcano, along with quite big, volcanic rocks. This plume of ash, rock and pumice also contains super-heated steam. This violet, volcanic activity (known as phreatic eruptions) shatters some of these rocks and the volcanic magma divides into very small particles. This plume erupting out of the volcano vent or vents results in these very fine particles of ash being scattered for long distances giving the appearance of a moon scape.

Exploding Myths About Volcanic Ash In Soaps and Skin Care Products

Let’s be clear – Volcanic Ash is not Bentonite Clay, volcanic sand or volcanic pumice.

Volcanic Ash comes straight out of the volcano as does volcanic pumice. However, pumice is as light as a feather and comes in small pebble sizes up to quite large, single rocks. Volcanic Ash, while it is feels and appears like black sand, it isn’t. Volcanic ash is made up of finely crushed particles under 2mm (.079 inches) and may be as small as 0.0025 inches (or 0.0635mm).

Oh and it’s not really Volcanic Dust either as “ash” and “dust” are classified by a specific size of the “Tephra” and “Pyroclastics” (terms used to describe igneous rock material ejected from active volcanoes). Volcanic dust particles are less than 0.063 mm (0.0025 inches).
